Ok, things i shouldn’t do in time of exam…

  • Blogging… Oops, that’s what i’m doing now
  • Late nights, which will cause sleep deficiency
  • Go back hostel in the name of "I want to rest", after effect of lack-of-sleep the night before (slept too late, lesson too early)
  • Yet never rest after reaching hostel
  • Finish up two boxes of Chocolate at one go (not to mention a cheesecake is eaten 3 hours ago)
  • Reading ppl’s blog till late nights again…

And the cycle go round and round… …

Out of the list, eating 2 boxes of choc on top of cheesecake is the big NO NO because i’ll be the one having "Choco-Fat-Intoxification". The effect can be long term, as one is not careful. So what i did was….

JOGGING!!!

But what’s the bgi deal? Let me reveal the underlying story, "Who’s on earth would jog on a Public Holiday at 12 NOON ?!??" That’s ME !!!

After waking up at unearthly hours for me, which was 11+ am, I can still feel the chocolate infusion in my stomach. Gosh…It’s been such a long time since i have a chance to sleep till this hour. Morning lecture at 8.30am is a norm for all SBS students. Furthermore, i always believe "early bird catches the worm", so i want to be an early bird. The phrase is somehow quite true for me as i get to have a longer day than the rest of my coursemates. *smile*

With a wedding to attend, the thought of wearing pretty dress cheer me up, yet the doubt of will i look pretty after too much chocolate makes me wonder. Instanteneously, my reflex is to JOG.

SO, JOG THOU JOG at 12noon on DEEPAVALI !!!

PS: Did i manage to lose whatever i added on to my waistline yesterday night? All i can say is that everything comes with a price, you want to eat but not the calorie? Then do something to burn it off *wink* But jogging does help to brighten your day when you start off your day right. Giving me extra reasons to eat more, healthy food!

Exam can be destructive…to your diet plan $& ^@*?

It’s going to be a public holiday tomorrow, meaning No School!~ WHhEeee…. But look, what happen when you decide not to "mug" aka study in school due to tired body tired mind…

Finally open up the two meiji chocolate, Limited Edition of Waffu Green Tea Macademia and Waffu Sesame Almond Choco.

P1020830small"Macademia, called "King of Nuts", is the most valuable"

"A splendid combination of almonds and chocolate"

I love Chocolate, especially dark, cakes and cookies! I think probably too much of these sweet stuff shape me of who i am today, a sweet girl huh? *wink* I’ve been watching my diet for quite a while until today, i did all the big NO NO for those on a diet.

First of all, just before dinner time…

                P1020756small

An extremely pretty looking Rasberry Cheesecake as my lil exam treat… Courtersy of a really sweet friend.

Unexpected hostel-cooked dinner by Kerry.

After dinner… My sweet tooth is calling out… And this is what i did.

P1020838small P1020841small

Showing a stack of wrappers of the chocolate consumed. Simply delicious ~

Oh dear…With the initial thought of "trying" the product while keeping my sweet tooth shut, the sweet lil treat is way TOoo GOood to stop at one. So… One after another and before long all the chocolate was gone!  (by adding a total of 303 + 361 = 664 calories ) -_-""

Shout out loud :

" I REALLY DIDN"T MEAN TO FINISH EVERYTHING!"

AWww.. There goes my diet with a wedding coming this Sunday. *faintz*

Folks, Happy Deepavali !

A sneak view of my life

Just some pictures showing what’s happening in my life…

P1020661small

My dear pinky mechanical pencil since 2001 when i was in form 4 was broken! The lead stucked and i was trying to fix it. My girl, Yu Chun was kind-hearted, she decided to help me with it. Then, Oops, She broke it into two~ *sob*

P1020667small

Can you see what the tiny little black creature is? Gosh, it’s some kind of insects crawling on the crysanthemum drink i made! Living alone just doesn’t allow one to keep too much dry food. Limited consumption…

                             P1020710small

But i’m not an ordinary girl~ I choose not to admit defeat to the circumstances around my hostel life, with limited cook ware and ingredients. Cooking dessert is still my passion. Be it Cakes, Pudding, Cookies and Tong Shui aka Dessert Soup. A bowl of China Barley with Green Bean Soup cooked in Claytan Bowl in microwave, meant to cool your body system and it can help to drain your excess body fluid.

P1020718small

Exam is just round the corner. When everyone is studying aka mugging, snacking during revision is inevitable. If only my room is a Meiji Factory in disguise…

Attended a Public Lecture by Professor CN Yang and Professor Fan Zeng last Saturday 3rd Nov 2007 at NTU Nanyang Auditorium.

Public Lecture by Professor CN Yang and Professor Fan Zeng

It was a 2.5 hrs public lecture conducted in Mandarin with close to 3000 audience. Free NTU Shuttle Service from Boon Lay MRT Station was provided for the public and the response was overwhelming.

About the two speaker,

Professor Chen-Ning Yang (CN Yang), 1957 Nobel Laureate in Physics
Collaborated with renowned physicist Professor Lee Tsung Dao to propose the theory that the lawof conservation of parity (mirror-reflection) does not apply to the weak force interactions between elementary particles

  • Emeritus Albert Einstein Professor of Physics, State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA
  • Distinguished Professor-at-large, Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • Professor, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China

Professor Fan Zeng

, renowned artist in Chinese painting

  • Head, Nankai University Museum of Antiquities, Tianjin, China
  • Contemporary master of figure painting, poetry and calligraphy
  • Held solo exhibitions in major cities in Asia and received various awards in design and painting

About the public lecture (quoted from NTU website),

The great Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi said: "Nature shows its true beauty without saying a word." Such interpretations of beauty, from scientific and artistic points of view, will be discussed by Nobel Laureate Professor CN Yang and renowned Chinese artist Professor Fan Zeng at this public lecture.

Professor Yang believes that the equations and theories formulated by great scientists such as Einstein, Newton, Dirac, Maxwell and Heisenberg are the backbone of theoretical physics. These equations are like poems created by Nature’s creator, and reflect the true beauty of Nature.

Meanwhile, Professor Fan’s philosophy of beauty is about harmony, Classicism and communicating with the beauty in Nature. He believes that true beauty lies in the discovery and imitation of Nature’s beauty.

I was the student helper for the event. Ushering was my jobscope. I was assigned to stand at the exit point to stamp on the hand of those going out of the auditorium for identification purpose. People from all walks of life came for the lecture, from students to old folks, parents bringing their young child, invited professors etc. Indeed it was a public lecture well-received!

Due to the overwhelming response, live telecast was arranged. Seating was on first-come-first-serve basis though public are required to register online for the lecture. Due to this matter, I had some tough encouter on that day. There were a few guys printed out their successful registration requesting for a seat while the auditorium was already filled. They didn’t respond well when I tried to explain that the seating was on first-com-first-serve basis. My face was turning green when they refused to move to the live telecast seating located at level 3 in the auditorium. My dear colleague, Tess came to my rescue and I really admire her PR skill and how she resolved the problem on hand. *salute*

It was an interesting public lecture and what have i learnt? I was a little brain dead throughout, yet both speakers delivered their discussion on the topic with such knowledge and individual interpretation on Beauty triggled me to some thinking. What thinking? I’m not sure of it myself at this moment but I was impressed! I think it’s high time for me to catch up with some reading and to expose myself to non-academic knowledge.

"Knowledge is the key to success!"

An evening out with Jim

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

So who’s Jim, our beloved Ah Jim??

                                                           Photo0137_2

                               Ah Jim

He’s my primary schoolmate, my secondary schoolmate, my badminton kaki, Yum-Cha kaki, a friend in whom I trust, someone i can pour my heart out, a friend who cares, a friend who loves and a friend who will accompany you all the lonely days when no one else is back in KLUANG!!! Lol… The best part of all, Ah Jim is a homely guy who loves to cook! *common point* Always trying to "invent" his new dish, eg: a pita-taste-a-like pizza??? According to him, his record is cooking a total of 70 near to 80 meals in UK. He did all the cooking for his hostelmates during his stay there. He was the only cook.

Oh, did i mentioned that he knows how to make Rojak? To the uninitiated, rojak by definition is a mixed salad. Chinese Rojak usually consists of pineapples, cucumbers, sengkuang (turnip), kangkong, sotong (squid or cuttlefish) and Yu Tiao (fried fritters) covered with peanut crumb and dark sauce made of shrimp paste.Hhmm… Mamak rojak contains fried fritters, cucumbers, sengkuang (turnip), hard boiled eggs and sliced cuttlefish. A spicy peanut sauce is then poured over the rojak. Ah Jim is also capable of making Tang Yuen, a glutinous rice ball with peanut filling. Both are my favourite past time food!

On Tuesday night, 30th Oct,

"I’ll be going to Changi for interview at 2.00pm"

"Go out leh, we go for dinner."

"Ok. Where and what time?"

"Jurong Point lo, nearer to me"

"Ok lo. Contact you through my sis’ hp that day"

End of story. That’s how we ended up going out together and Ah Jim was late for an hour! (how can a guy let a girl wait for an hour at mrt interchange???) Ah Jim was late with valid reason and we were really good buddy, so i didn’t mind waiting for him. He was the guest and he got to choose. After giving him a few suggestions, with two desperate hungry stomach to feed, he laid his eyes on Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao.

Waited for almost 20 minutes for a table. The whole place was jam-packed during dinner hour. This was the third visit to the restaurant, i was still quite unfamiliar of what they’ve got to offer. The pictures in the menu gave us the rough ideas how the dishes look like. The indecisiveness in us couldn’t come to a conclusion of what to order. After some time of struggle, I saw the promotion leaflet at the side of the table. $26.80 (before tax and GST) for a set meal for two which includes a starter (cold dish), a main, a rice/noodle and a dessert or specialty. Should have seen the promo earlier, save us the trouble of thinking what to eat.

This is what we ordered

              Photo0132

               Photo0134

Oops, forgot the name, is some fried noodles with shredded meat and shredded black fungus.

               Photo0133

The two specialty that we ordered from the set meal was 小笼包 and we ordered one 狗不理包子on top of the set (picture not shown).

                Photo0136

The cold dish looked ordinary but HmmHmmm… I experienced the unique flavour of the cold dish which both Ah Jim and myself couldn’t figure it out. It was more to the salty side yet sweet at the same time. Century egg with soft, melt-in-your-mouth toufu with chicken floss, spring onion and peanut topping, a twist of taste!

But the excitement ended there.

The fried noodle was ok. Nothing spectacular for a restaurant standard. The soup dish was to my liking. Served with thick Cod Fish slices, Beancurd skin-made toufu, Kiam Chay, pepper and some other spices which i couldn’t identify(it tasted like some pickles which i didn’t like). Xiao long bao is their specialty and there’s nothing to talk about. 狗不理包子was a chinese bao (a bun with filling). The filling is, to our disappointment, same as the 小笼包 except probably more 韭菜were in it.

The bill came up to SGD$36.25. A little bit taxing for my thin purse. What to do,有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎?(Meaning: For old-time good friend’s sake) But at the same time, i felt “花钱容易 赚钱难”。 For those who doesn’t read Chinese, it means $ is hard to earn yet it’s spent easily.

PS: My school friend bumped in us, and lots of Questions were arrowed to me that night and the day after. "Who’s the guy?" "You sure he’s only your friend?"

Yup, he’s only my friend to those who are so concerned about me… *wink*
